New chick owner

I start offering grit when they move to my coop, at about three weeks of age, because they are then getting bugs and stuff besides chick starter feed. Chicks raised at the coop by a broody hen start eating odd stuff immediately, and have grit/ sand/ dirt available too. Mary

If you're only feeding chick starter, they don't need grit.

If you decide to offer other things as treats, you should offer a bit of grit beforehand so they will be able to grind the food. My chicks had access to grit at one week old because that's when I started introducing them to treats.
