Hi and newbie greetings from south central Alaska.
Got a 2.5yo hen whose breast has a swollen, golf-ball-size bulge. It feels like a water balloon; when massaged I discovered a skin dark and the underfeathers matted with a putrid fluid (took 4 washings plus sanitizer to exorcize the stank from my hands!).
She has been listless and self-exiled for two days. My birds part time free-range so it's possible she tangled with something, although I've seen no evidence of trauma.
Does this sound like an injury or disease? Recommendations on treatment ...or euthanizing? Tell me I don't have to lance that thing, please.
Thanks!
-Eric in Homer.
