my hen ate too much hey and became compacted

My 5 month old pullet died today she was compacted. She or the rooster, or the other chickens ripped her skin open and ripped her crop open as well. And I could see the compacted straw that was clogging her system I removed it and apply peroxide and neosporin but upon applying peroxide she started flinching and died, a very sad moment for me.I sometimes feel like I should have just left her alone but I feel like I did the best thing for her.
 
Welcome to BYC. Are you sure that she wasn't attacked by a predator? Some will attack the crop or take the head off. Weasels, mink, opossums, raccoons, dogs, cats, owls, hawks, foxes and coyotes, are all chicken predators. Long grasses, hay and straw can cause impacted crop. Make sure that your chickens have access to feed at all times they are awake. Sorry for your loss.
