Raising egg layers for the first time

Whats good my fellow bird lovers

i just one day decided to raise chicks to become hens and lay me some protein .

i picked up

2 REDS

2 California whites

The two black ones in the picture are obviously two different breeds i just don't know the names .

can any one name the breed?

I think the one in the back may be a Black Australorp,  the front one, I don't know  - it looks a little blueish around the edges, so maybe the color will change.  You can get more opinions if you post photos at  "what breed or gender is this."  It definitely helps if you mention their age.

Welcome to BYC! I'm glad you joined us! :)

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele

Hi and welcome to BYC.

If you check out the Learning Centre, you'll find a whole host of resources on all things chicken.

Your state thread is worth joining as you will get to know other BYC members in your area (just type your state in the search box). In fact, the search box should become your best friend  Lastly but by no means least, the members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC,

All the best

There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around the run.
Did a moth know that the flame was going to change her life forever, or did she simply fly towards that heated embrace, knowing it would offer her something she couldn't give herself? In the end, the answer didn't really matter. The moth had never wanted the choice. -Joey W. Hill-

I agree with drumstick diva...you could have Black Australorp but to be sure, check in with the experts over on the "what breed is this" forum:

http://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this

It would help to have full body shots of them for best chances of identification.

Hope you are enjoying the chicks!
