Golden Comets stopped laying eggs

We bought them when they were 10 months old and they were laying eggs when we got them. We were getting at least a dozen eggs for the first few days. The diet the previous owner had them on was 24% hog feed and soybean meal. They are 11 months old now.

We wanted a natural organic diet so we switched them to natural grains and legumes. (wheat berries, organic popcorn, flax seed, lentils, wheatgerm, oatmeal, spelt berries). When we did that the eggs stopped completely and we haven't had an egg since. We don't want to use oyster shells cause we don't eat anything seafood.

What would you suggest we do differently but still keep an "organic" natural diet? Space is not an issue.

:welcome

The eggs you got when you first got the birds were probably eggs that were already in the chicken's laying cycle. Between moving and a total change to diet, that stress can cause birds to quit laying.

There are organic feeds available. For example, this one: http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/1083209/does-purina-have-a-feed-option-for-my-organic-flock

Using the Search feature will probably turn up others.

I'm not sure how giving oyster shell to your birds (which is for strong egg shells) impacts your no-seafood diet. But they need some source of calcium to make strong shells so you'll need to look for alternatives. Again, the search feature should help with that.

Good luck!
