We have a tiny black sex link and we've been worried about her. We got her and 14 other chicks about 6 days ago and she is so much smaller than the others. She doesn't have nearly as much energy or eat/drink as much as the others. Sometimes she will just hang out in the corner by herself. As of yesterday her wings look like they're starting to droop and I'm getting concerned.
Has anyone had a similar experience? Could she just be a runt? I'll attach some pictures of her and the other sex link. (They're 9 days old) She is a LOT smaller than the other one, so she's the tiny black one in the pics.
Thanks in advance!

Hmm although I have never experienced this myself.. sounds like she could be a little to hot (chickens wings usually droop when their to hot)

Make sure there's just heat in one spot... so if they don't need the heat they can move away

Im sorry but I cant think of anything else apart from heat and she is obviously the runt ..Is she vaccinated? if you have the $ for it I suggest vaccinating her but If you don't have the $ don't worry

All the best

Six out of 21 of my chicks failed to grow their first week, very likely due to shipping stress (5 chicks were DOA or died quickly). So, their flockmates were twice as big. I separated them into their own brooder to make sure they had unimpeded access to resources, kept them on medicated chick starter, kept probiotics in their water, and watched them very carefully to make sure everybody was eating and drinking. If I had known about Nutri-drench then, I would have used it too.

I was able to reintegrate them back into the flock at about 3 weeks. They had started growing normally and had good droppings. They're still a little smaller, but not enough to get picked on.

Occasionally, some of my Silkie chicks hatch out really tiny and just seem to not grow. The last one, hatched by a broody and raised with the flock, I thought she'd NEVER grow (she's around 6-7 months old now). Around 5 months, she started picking up a bit. Now, she's all caught up and a normal sized bird. She just laid her first egg yesterday. I don't think I've ever had one that didn't catch up, but I always worry about them!
