The scorpions are new to me and in my opinion my home is under attack. I know they are bad in central TX but this is insane, maybe the rain has made them worse? We purchased our home 3 months ago so we are still getting acquainted with it. My son was stung my a scorpion on Monday on his finger from one hiding in a shirt on the floor. I found a 3" one in the brooder this morning by accident because I almost ran into it and it started sprinting. I did a TON of research and adult chickens can survive and USUALLY EAT AND ENJOY scorpions. But these chicks are only 6 days old. One was stung in the check (we think we saw a swollen area on her chest). I don't know about the other for certain. They just got sick, lethargic, stopped eating and drinking and stopped moving. It could be coincidence but they were all fine yesterday morning...
I am also paranoid because of my son being stung. This is my first adventure with scorpions. We are shaking our shoes, sweeping, shaking clothes and spraying like crazy. YUCK!!!!
sticky pads work best for scorpions. Spray doesn't work that well because their skeleton is on the outside protecting their insides lol. Place the sticky pads where they will have to cross them and then get stuck to them. Especially places like the Attic near doors and windows were they can come in. Under the cabinets for the sink is near the pipes they like moisture. I live in the panhandle of Texas and when I moved into this house seven years ago we have scorpions terrible. The Exterminator is the one that told me about the sticky padsyayyy!! So cute!
what did you set , and when are they do?
even though it is survival of the fittest it is still not fun, lots of hugs your way
oh my! A scorpion? We don't have those around here, is that something they could survive? More hugs needs!

I don't know too many people that raise bantam pure Rhode Island Reds. I know one BYC member who I believe does, Dick Horstman who is a poultry judge who lives in I believe Pennsylvania. I raise large fowl pure Rhode Island Reds. There is a thread on BYC for the Heritage Rhode Island Reds. My current avatar is one of my females that won a champion at a show. Hatchery RIR's can be somewhat aggressive but I have never had a mean Heritage Rhode Island Red. I raise both Rose Comb and Single Comb.
I have officially had my worst night mare come to life
I set 24 cream legbar eggs in my incubator 3 weeks ago
2 were infertile which is fine.
One died in the egg around the middle of th incubation.
Everything else hatched which is great...........
But 14 are roosters!
So only 8 hens
I am happy and sort of angry that
There is so many roosters...
Hi cmom
That's what will be happening
Most of them the freezer!
It's disappointing though to have to kill so many
As you never realy sell much roosters.
Oh well
Hopefully next hatch is better.
