My broody hen still has only 1 chick, hatched the day before yesterday. She is still sitting on the others, I think some of the eggs were layed later. I pencil marked them but it got rubbed off so I didn't know which ones were the originals. How long will she continue to sit? I think all of the eggs under her are still good. There is no smell.
She knows what to do, she will kick out bad eggs an stay with good eggs
Temp varied. I semi-ignored the built in thermometer. I used the extra one that came with the incubator but was concerned about accuracy because someone stated in a post that humidity affects the reading because it was mounted on a piece of cardboard. Then I placed aquarium thermometers inside and monitored them. Temps were 102 for a period to start....a few hours after setting eggs but after were 100-98. I started with water in the channels but did not add after it initially dried up around 12 days. Humidity gauge was around 60-70 and dipped as low as 20 after water dried up. The readings for humidity were only from gauge on top of incubator. Incubator is a Farm Innovators 4200 with automatic egg turner. Included thermometer pics. I ran without large vent plugs in. It really pushed humidity up when I had them in. I would occasionally place thermometers in the vent plugs to get a reading. leaving the suction cups on the thermometers keeps them from falling inside. It allowed me to adjust the height of the thermometer to get readings near top of eggs to. Word of caution. if using egg turner thermometers can touch eggs while in turner if thermometers are inserted too low and left there the can hit the eggs as they are turning. Day 18 I added water to channels and small sponges. Put plugs in the vent holes and removed eggs from turner. 26 went into lockdown. This morning one was already hatched and another pipped. removed plugs and sponges because humidity was 100 and windows condensation covered. Other egg that was pipped (Bantam) has hatched. Another has pipped seen beside new hatchling.
never trust the thermometer or hygrometers that come with the incubator! Never, calibration is a must! I know I cooked many eggs for ignorance! Go to the 1st post on this thread, to hatching 101 there is a link to calibrate Congrats on the 1 hatchling
Introducing... (from left to right) Sleepy, Lacey, and Squirt the duckling sisters. Lacey is the spitting image of her mom with a small, perfectly centered crest and a tuft of feather over the left eye (makes her look like she is wearing a fancy hat).

So CUTE!
I have a pip! At least one of them might make me eligible for this HAL!!
