Looking for a Good Place To Order Chicks From - Page 2

I had good luck with Murray McMurray when I ordered in 2014. I liked the fact they have been in business for many years and their customer service reps were so helpful. Also, for my order here in FL, their shipping charges were less than the other online hatcheries. I did have one chick die within 24 hours of receiving them and they were quick to put a credit on my account.

I'm my opinion vaccine for Mareks is VERY important. Meyer hatchery only charges .50 cents per bird to do it. This year I ordered my chicks from Meyer hatchery. I pre ordered in January for hatch/ship date April 11th..Meyers answered all my questions and has given me the best customer service!! I had some email questions they promptly responded. I also had some add on that they did quickly and i'd asked through email. They also ship the chicks with a long lasting heat pack which most hatcheries don't do. They also ship express or priority depending where you live. They have a HUGE selection of breeds and give a free female or male your choice on gender chick. The chicks eggs or meat is to help feed the hungry. I got a layer to donate eggs. it's there way to help you help others. They also will not send male chicks as "packing peanuts" like other hatcheries do. you should check them out online. you can see all the breeds, their characters, and available dates! Hope this helps

Marek's vaccine is well worth it;  coccidiosis vaccine not so much.  Plan to feed a chick starter with amprolium added, at least until you know if your property has a problem with that parasite, I think a better option than the coccidiosis 'vaccination'.  Mary

I had the exact same experience with My Pet Chicken. There was an unexpected snowstorm in March when they shipped and all of my bantams died. Although my standards are doing great. They were good about refunds and gave advice about keeping the rest of the flock alive, even though they froze in their first couple days of life!

I've also bought chickens from Meyer and am pleased with them with no losses, although I did order during peak season in the summer, so deaths would have been unlikely.

Ideal Poultry and McMurray are supposed to be good, but I find their websites obnoxious and difficult to work with.

My Pet Chicken and Meyer Hatchery have great information on chickens, which breeds to get, and availability on their website. My Pet Chicken will even tell you how many birds that they have available on any given day and has a search engine for available birds on a daily basis. They also have a Chicken Breed Selector that can be helpful when determining which breeds to get.

I am a confirmed My Pet Chicken fan, not only because I have been happy with my orders, but because their customer service has been wonderful.  The bonus?  Alex, from My Pet Chicken, is now a regular on Back Yard Chickens.  That means she keeps her finger on the pulse of what's going on and has a unique one-on-one relationship being built with MPC's customers.  She's solved issues folks have had, run contests here, and always seems to enjoy getting to know "us" as more than credit card numbers and shipping addresses.  To me that's huge.
