Little chick big problem

Thread Starter
I got chicks a couple of days ago I only got three of them. One of them today I noticed had dried poo on her. I took a warm wet wash cloth and carefully cleaned her off, I noticed that she was bleeding. I called my vet and he does not really work with chickens. The chick has been struggling since with going poo and when she tries her backside protrudes significantly. Is there anything I can do to help her?

Here is a copy and paste from a different source on dealing with Pasty Butt.   Also a link to source page.   Cavemanrich is not a plagiarist.

Treatment: Dirty vents should be cleaned off carefully with a q-tip dipped in olive oil and rechecked/relubricated as needed (usually takes a few days). Cornmeal or ground raw oatmeal can help clear up pasty butt, as can adding probiotic powder to your chick’s feed. Chick-sized grit should also be provided in the brooder.

I have had very good luck with oatmeal. And the chicks can eat it without grinding it too. Just right out of your oatmeal container works great and they love it. I also was told by a master breeder that scrambled eggs helps too. So when ever I have a real bad case of it I do both and have had great results.

Good luck,

Christie
