I have a splash Maran rooster who I took out today for a bit and I noticed when he was eating for a split second a strand of mud is (clear liquid) line went down and out his beak, but it was over fast. I have not seen him showing "sick" symptoms like being inactive, he has clear eyes, he eats and drinks, just yesterday he bred with my pullet (the first time I've seen it). He has been getting in a fight with our Amerecuana rooster who needs to go (we have no where go separate them), so his comb is badly scabbed. I noticed that after he crows (this has been for months) that he makes a little pinched sound afterwards and sometimes I can hear his breathing. Other than the spit I saw today and his breathing he acts normal.
