Brand new to raising chickens.

Hi,

My husband, teenage daughter and I live in upstate SC and are brand new to this whole chicken thing. She wanted to try egg production for her FFA project. We purchased 4 Buff Orpingtons and 2 RIR (all hens) chicks that are about 5 days old. We have them in a brooder with a heat lamp and are working on where to place the coop. I'm looking forward to learning more about chickens and enjoying the fresh eggs.

Hi and :welcome to BYC - great to have you join us.

If you check out the Learning Centre, you'll find a whole host of resources on all things chicken.

Your state thread is worth joining as you will get to know other BYC members in your area (http://www.backyardchickens.com/t/270925/find-your-states-thread). In fact, the search box should become your best friend  Lastly but by no means least, the members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

:welcome   so glad you have joined us and congrats on getting your own flock.

They grow so fast and will be ready to move out to a coop by the time they are 5-6 weeks old.

Better get the coop site selected and start building very soon.

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele
