Here are some of my 30 3-week old babies enjoying their daily treat of a bucket of mulch and some pulled weeds.

They are outside now full time, heat lamp was off 2 nights ago and last night the heating pad was turned off. We are in Hawaii and daytime temps are in the 80's and nighttime might go down to 70 on a cool night. I checked them and no loud peeping . They were all spread out sleeping under the covered part but not all huddled up together like they were cold.

They have caught a gecko on their own and watching them play football with it was hilarious!

They will be moving to their big girl area in a few days. We need to make sure the deer netting is covering any escape routes.

With these cuties I now have 54!! Chicken math got me! I picked up 12 hens and a rooster yesterday that a lady didn't want to deal with anymore. She was unsure of their age, maybe 3 or older. I got a big beautiful brown egg from one of them today!

I have 3 flocks now, all in their own areas. They can see each other, but not crossing into each others territories.

54!!! :) That's amazing! Perfect weather it sounds like! My sister lived in Hawaii for a few years and I always wished I could have visited her.

They/Chickens can be addicting :) I started with one (rescue) that I later rehomed (Cockerel), so I called the breeder and got 2. One turned out to be a Cockerel and since they were bonded, rehomed them to a 4Her. So I then became a "chick nanny" for the breeder; she'd hatch & I'd care for (35 - 50) chicks until they were 8wks then she'd take them back. Breeder at one point gave me some Wyndottes & EE chicks that I had "sexed" but then I gave them back cause I had no one to care for them & had to make a flight to the Mainland. Then I got some pullets (Buff & Australorps) from Dels but when they were about 20wks, had to rehome due to family situations.

It's been 3yrs & I called the breeder, got 2 RIR & 2 Ameraucanas/EE chicks late last year, they just passed the 20wk mark. I'd love to get more but Summer is my Grandma trip to the Mainland & Hubby's not that keen on caring for them :( He built me a beautiful enclosed Run (8x12), says IF I get anymore to WAIT until I return from my planned trip :)

Hello there in Hilo! We are in HPP on an acre. The chickens are on about 1/2 of that and as soon as we clear more land, they will get more. A little at a time, it really is a jungle back there!

Thankfully my hubby is very understanding and was more then thrilled when I sold my first eggs last week.

I've never process any chickens so that will be a first for us, but I have to be able to subtract if I want to add. :)

Have a great trip to the mainland, my daughter will be here in July to start highschool from Las Vegas.

Isn't this a GREAT site?!
HPP is a nice place to be to "farm", in Hilo I can only have a few chickens, not sure what the limit is but figure I'm safe with 4 pullets. Congrats with your first egg sell. I'm looking forward to fresh eggs & keep us entertained but this "teenage" stage is making me NUTS! We thought of processing once they slowed egg production but then I decided they're "pets with benefits" :) Would like to add 2 Orpingtons but must wait until AFTER summer :)
That's great your daughter will enjoy some beach time before starting high school. Best of wishes and enjoy your chickens!
