The yellow chick hatched Friday night, the three darker chicks hatched yesterday (Saturday) while we were at work. The very first silkie egg is hatching right now when I moved her and snapped a quick picture before she covered them up again.
Of the four dry chicks, possible mom's are Gold Laced Wyandotte, Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, or Red Stars. Dad is a Splash/Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. The silkies will be no mystery. They are just silkies. I don't know if the other two brown eggs will hatch or not. She was sitting on brown eggs on top of a pile of almost 30 eggs (all my hens lay in the giant doghouse for our great pyrenees.) So they may not have been ones she had sat on before being moved into the garage and having the silkie eggs added underneath her. I'm not holding out hope for the two poopy eggs. If I have anymore mystery mixes hatch I'll update with pictures.
I'm wondering if the three little dark chicks could be a mix between my GLW and my BLRW. They are much lighter than my GLW chicks were when I got them though.
A picture of the meanest and possibly most homely silkie hen in existance. This is as close as I'm willing to get while she's facing me... but she can totally turn her head all the way around exorcist style and peck me even if she's facing the other way. My broody BO back in October was much sweeter and more laid back when she hatched out chicks.
