So my chicks under the broody hen are hatching. So far we are up to 5. With 7 more eggs to go. Excuse the disgustingly dirty nest box and the two poopy eggs... this hen not only poops in the nest box every single day (on top of her giant smelly broody poops she leaves outside the nest every day) and she also constantly attacks me while I'm trying to clean it.

The yellow chick hatched Friday night, the three darker chicks hatched yesterday (Saturday) while we were at work. The very first silkie egg is hatching right now when I moved her and snapped a quick picture before she covered them up again.

Of the four dry chicks, possible mom's are Gold Laced Wyandotte, Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, or Red Stars. Dad is a Splash/Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. The silkies will be no mystery. They are just silkies. I don't know if the other two brown eggs will hatch or not. She was sitting on brown eggs on top of a pile of almost 30 eggs (all my hens lay in the giant doghouse for our great pyrenees.) So they may not have been ones she had sat on before being moved into the garage and having the silkie eggs added underneath her. I'm not holding out hope for the two poopy eggs. If I have anymore mystery mixes hatch I'll update with pictures.

I'm wondering if the three little dark chicks could be a mix between my GLW and my BLRW. They are much lighter than my GLW chicks were when I got them though.

A picture of the meanest and possibly most homely silkie hen in existance. This is as close as I'm willing to get while she's facing me... but she can totally turn her head all the way around exorcist style and peck me even if she's facing the other way. My broody BO back in October was much sweeter and more laid back when she hatched out chicks.

With the dad being a BLRW, I am a little surprised I got a solid yellow chick. I assumed they would all have some sort of pattern. I'm not sure if the small dark areas are feather color or if the chick is dirty. Twice now this chick has gotten stuck to the silkie mom's feathers and had to be unstuck.

I think the other three are going to be blue laced wyandottes. The dad is a splash blue laced red and the mom or mom's would be gold laced wyandottes. I'm not sure exactly what color that would make these other than they should have blue lacing. Still waiting on some eggs to hatch.

I also got a look at the little silkie baby after it dried off. Partridge. The partridge silkies are going to take over my backyard. That one chick made it so that I have more partridge than other colors combined. Lol.

It has a rose comb I believe. Possible mom's are gold laced wyandotte, red star, buff orpington, Rhode Island red. Possible dad's are Splash Blue Laced Red Wyandotte or Blue and Red American game yard mix.

I also was thinking it would be a hen... but now I'm not sure. Hatched on 11/09/15. So about 4 months old. Rooster?

Another picture... and below a Rhode Island red mix that is the same age.

Yes... these are my back steps where they love to sleep and hang out and beg for treats... and poop constantly.

Probably the red star hen for the mother, they usually have dominant white, and the Wyandotte for the father.

I took these pictures at night, it's a little hard to tell but the RIR mix has a blue tail instead of black. She probably has the same dad. Her feathers are even darker red than her mothers. She's SOOO dark. I think she's gorgeous.
