Hey BYC i have been lurking for about a week on the forums and thought i would come out of the shadows. I am starting my first flock on 10 acres near Gilmer, Texas.
I am starting with TSC "Pullets" Barred Rock and New Hampshire reds 4 of each to start, I say "pullets" like that because I have one that I am not sure of (actually im not sure about any of them) This one seems to be acting the protector role and has a more pronounced comb (Or it may be that she has white markings on the face and it just looks that way).... I have had them for a week today.
I am brooding them in the newly constructed coop, Photo below. The Coop is 9 foot by 5 foot inside and about 5'10" tall. It is three foot off the ground (trying to make it harder on the foxes I have seen) and is inside a 9 X 16 aviary. It is a converted pole barn that I used to park my old tractor under.
My Babies getting a little scratch time while I finished a few things on the coop.
Coop during construction, The wall slats have been cut off at about the bottom of the door now.
Mostly complete with the aviary up
