Hello, I have started my new chicken coop. How wide should my nesting box be? Right now I was thinking 12in deepx12in tall x 11in wide. That would allow me to have four nesting boxes. What do you think?

12"x12"x12" is typical size but it depends on size of chickens. I always make mine at 14"x14"x14" and works out well. Hope this helps.

Nest boxes
In my nest boxes I fold a feed bag to fit (nest boxes are 1 ft³ and can accommodate 2 Golden Comet hens at once). When a bag gets soiled; fold a new one; pop out the soiled; pop in the new. Feed bags are a nylon mesh bag.
Frozen poop just peels off in below freezing temperatures and just flakes off in summer when left out in the sun to bake and dry.

I have 65 trips around the sun it is the best method I have stumbled upon.

Make sure the twine is removed from the open end of the bag it can get tangled around your birds.

What is the max number of birds your coop could hold? I built three 16 inch wide boxes for my 6x8 coop. The most I would have in it is twelve birds. I was told you need one nest next box for every 4-6 hens.

I built mine around the plastic containers which I suggest with pine shavings, I pull the containers out daily, pick out feathers and any poo stir the chips and it's good to go. I have never had to dump them yet but if I do clean out will be a breeze. Mine are I believe 13" tall, 12" wide and 16" deep, just depends on the container for me, my kick board on the face is 4" tall. I staggared my boxes so they can hop from the lower tier to the upper tier.

My goofy hens wouldn't use the nest boxes when I had the plastic tubs inside. I thought that was a great idea too! Hubby built the boxes around the tubs. They're now collecting dust in our basement. :he

Your set-up looks really nice.
