Meepberp im in serious coop envy! I wish I had room to have a brooder in my coop. As it is I have way to many chickens in my coop (I have two coops but they all cram into one to sleep...it's ridiculous!)

Thanks for the replies heat plate wasn't on yet, I am running a 60w regular bulb in it now that the plate has come to temperature.Quote:
You have all the heat the chicks need with just the brooding plate. The heat lamp is heating the entire brooder which is dangerous. It creates an "oven" effect and your chicks are in danger of cooking. Like a bunch of meat patties you're trying to keep hot. Chicks need a place to warm themselves, and the rest of your extremely nice brooder should be much cooler. Even if the room they're in is quite cold, it's not going to hurt them. In fact, it benefits the chicks and will help in fast feather growth.
