Lonley Chick Help Please

I am so glad I found this forum and that you asked about this. We just had a single chick hatch last night in the incubator. We started with 5 eggs and only 2 were growing. One has hatched and is now pecking on the other egg. Is this normal? And how long should we wait to see if the other egg with hatch? Thanks for your help!!

So excited to start this journey. We have 8 more new eggs to place once these are ready to come out.

Thanks they still won't eat and the one is 2 days old today and the other one is only a day old

How are they doing now? Eating OK?

My lone chick is a lot happier today as it got a new friend.. a day old bantam that my friends chicken hatched out.

At first my chicks was very jealous of it and would peck at it hard.. going for the eyes!

It did this every time it came near me. In the brooder it was very territorial and again attacked it.

But now its fine.. and the little new one gives as good as it gets.. it likes to peck the big ones toes!

The older one calmed down after some time out in the garden with the bigger chickens in its safety cage! Tired it out.

My hen is due to hatch her eggs in about 2 days time.. I am hoping I will be able to sneak there 2 in with her babies... I will keep you informed.

I want the older chick to become a chicken again.. as its imprinted on me.. which is very cute when it runs after me in the garden.. cheeping... and when it hops on my hand to be picked up and carried like a king. It even had a go at my rooster.. jumping at his eyes and pulling on his wattles... until the rooster got mad and gave it a hard peck.. but it kept going back for more!!! Brave or stupid I don't know.

Your little lone chick may be a cockerel. Their little macho personalities can emerge pretty early on. I recently had one who was mounting his brooder mate at age ten weeks.

It's great that he's finally gotten a little buddy!
