I just got my first seven chicks ever. We got six silkies and an unknown breed that we were told was a rooster. Can anyone give me advice on what they will be like and what to expect?

They'll be adorable and you can expect to fall in love with them 
Silkies are notorious for being a docile, gentle breed that goes broody often. You can probably expect at some point that you'll have to either give them eggs to hatch, or break them of their broodiness. Hopefully your free chick is at least a bantam. It wouldn't be a good thing for the hatchery to send a standard sized rooster to go with your small, docile Silkies. Also, if your Silkies are straight run, you'll probably already have a rooster to go with any girls you have.
