Because, if you leave one pullet with all those cockerels, when their hormones kick in, they'll all gang up on her. Pullets/hens have been mated to death by over amorous cockerels. I only see one girl, the little partridge Cochin. Every little chick sporting a red comb this young is a boy. Sorry.
All of these little bantams are currently 5 weeks old. I have 6 standard size chicks in a separate brooder, three 5 weeks old, three 6 weeks old (one of the 6 week old chickens is a Rhode Island Red rooster). My husband and I are building 2 coops (1 for bantams, 1 for standards). What is your opinion on mixing the standards and bantams in order to even things out sex-wise?
Or should I keep them separate and get rid of some roos? :(
