HI EVERYONE, NEW CHICKEN OWNER HERE



I bought three hens about two weeks ago, and when i got home I noticed that the easter egger has some bumps on her legs. After looking up what it could be on here, i thought maybe it was leg mites. If she does have leg mites its from her previous owner. I started rubbing VetRX on it and then i used vasoline. Can anyone tell me if its leg mites? Maybe an early case? Thanks in advance!

 
I would lean towards, yes, an early case of scaly leg mites. You are doing what should be done, with the Vet Rx and the vaseline, to smother and kill them, but you need to keep it up for several days to be sure they are dead. Don't be afraid to slather both things on too thick - you can't be too careful. Leg mites are really uncomfortable to them, and are hard to kill. Keep up your treatment, though, and you should be fine - as should your pretty new girl!

Thank you!! i will keep up with treatment and hopefully it goes away. She is very skittish and flighty so me giving her a warm bath was kind of last resort, so hopefully this works!!

Now all my girlies need to do is give mama some eggs! lol but i know that will be awhile since theyve been relocated

If it were me, I'd toss out a little dry cat food as a treat for them, which is high in protein, and add a little unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar to their water (tablespoon per gallon or so), as a pick-me-up. I've had good luck with that as a way to settle in new arrivals.
