I have 3 hens, just lost one to some evil predator and am thinking about getting a rooster to protect them (would look for one maybe a bit older someone wanted to rehome). I really don't have room for more hens and don't want to get a rooster if he'll abuse the hens because 3 can't meet his needs. Most seem to recommend having 10 hens per rooster but one thread I read said there a some rooster breeds that are less active. Are there less 'randy' breeds? if so which would i look for and would they still be as protective ? Is this just a bad plan all together?
