Lets see I have several chicks in the grow out pen and then some that are not quiet ready for the grow out pen and then I have some that are still under the heat light and I have 19 in the incubator, notice I did not say how many were in the pens, oh yeah and 6 turkeys poults. Oh and I'm on the sick chick list at Tractor Supply Co. and out of the 15 I picked up I lost 3, so I added Isa Browns and 2 black asian chicks to my growing list, but least the sick chicks are free!!! I have a hen that isn't broody but she sits on top of the wire that is covering some of the babies I have so I'm thinking she likes babies or she wants to get next to the warming light, we are not that cold for fully feathered girls. Lows are in the 40's and up to high 60's to low 70's. I didn't get my rose bushes planted today but will work on that tomorrow, I have some plants due to arrive tomorrow and I am meeting with a carpenter to discuss a new chicken coop, yep bigger!!!
OH MY!! You are one busy lady! you do need a bigger coop!! I had ordered 15 chicks from Murray McMurray but decided to cancel it. I found someone on BYC that had buckeye chicks that were 4 weeks old and I bought 4 off of her. For some reason, I'm not wanting many chickens right now. I have 18 older ones and will need to replenish them next year. I don't get rid of them if they aren't laying. I think they are all laying but not consistantly. We get anywhere from 4-6 a day. We got 8 yesterday, 6 today. But my chicken coop can hold up to 25 comfortably. If I get too many, they all won't fit into one coop. We have 2 of them, but I'm trying to cut down on the work of 2 coops for DH. He is the one that does the heavy work of cleaning them out. The 4 little new ones are in the smaller coop until they are ready to be put in with the older ones. My rooster is old, so none of our eggs are fertile. I have a banty rooster, but I don't think he gets the job done either!! I have a buckeye roo in the new ones. So maybe next year I will get a broody and raise some that way. I love broodies!! This weather is the pits up here. We are going to maybe get snow flurries tonight with the lows in the upper 20's. We have 3 nights this week that are supposed to be below freezing. Highs tomorrow 49 but with ne winds its going to be cool. The rest of the week is a roller coaster. Wednesday hi's in the low 60's then thurs, fri, and sat, hi's in the low 40's!! I'm so ready for some warm weather!! Even when the sun has been shining, the air is so cold!!!
coldupnorth ~ I shouldn't be complaining!! At least we don't have snow on the ground!!! I am just thankful for health and that I'm able to enjoy every day the Lord has given me! But, I would really like to go warm myself in some warm sunshine though!
