I'm new to this site as well as raising chickens. Just got my first 15 the other day. Already dealing with Pastey Butt and have read many different opinions on what works best. I didn't have any yogurt this morning (will get some this afternoon) but I did have two hard boiled eggs so I ground them up and put them in their little pen. I haven't a clue if it's enough or to much. Any advice is welcome!

I started putting a little apple cider vinegar (ACV) in the chicks' drink water a few years ago and I haven't had a pasty butt incident since. The ratio I use is roughly 3-5 tablespoons to a gallon water. Put it in a plastic waterer, not metal.

Medicated chick feed doesn't have anything to do with pasty butt.

I've raised a lot of chicks, and i have read a lot of remedies. But i have always had the most success with simply keeping a close eye on butts for about the first week. Whenever i find a pasty butt, i clean it and then apply oil around the vent, which helps keep the area from collecting poop. Generally, this takes care of the problem for me. I'm not saying the yogurt and acv aren't great for the chicks' insides. It's always good to add great stuff to your chicks' diets.
 
Brand spankin new to the forums AND being a chicken...mom... we bought 3 chicks today and straight away i checked their rears and one was totally clumped up. cleared away a big chunk but there was one that was stuck to the side of her vent. i tried wiping it away with a warm, wet cloth but its not working. she keeps pecking at it and it makes me sad/nervous (seriously an emotional wreck watching these little babies). anywho. im gonna post a disgusting bird-butt photo in hopes that someone will be able to tell me if this is as serious as im making it out to be...
 
@Monet411 Welcome to BYC! That is not serious, but it may turn into a problem later on, if more poop sticks. What I usually do with a minor clump like that is cut it off carefully with a sharp pair of scissors.
 
Not only am I new to these forums but I am new to raising chickens in general. Found a chick with pasty bottom today, and am very pleased to find the help needed right here. Thanks again for everyone's insight.
 
I am new to this feed and also to raising chickens I have one that has pasty but I have been soaking it with warm water I put Neosporin on it and nothing seems to help I got probiotics from the feed store to add to their the water I just added it last night so not sure if I just need to give it time or is there something else I should be doing

you can also use a little oil to loosen the poop.
