I just killed my first chicken ever. He was 14 weeks old, raised from eggs I hatched and it was successful but time consuming! From kill to refrigerator brining was 1 1/2 hours. I had to do it while hubby was at work but I can tell it would be much quicker with two people. I'm making stock now from the neck, gizzard, and feet along with an onion, carrots, and spices.

I'm hoping to process another rooster in a few weeks,as today's rooster was only 2 lbs 10 oz!!!

Lol...I'm thinking rooster and dumplings!

He was a RIR mix or production red mix...we have no purebreds here...hahah! After today I'm thinking of buying some meat birds though! I was very surprised at how little meat was under all those feathers and cocky attitude!

Another one chiming in for "It will take less time the more often you do it". also, doing more than one bird at a time shortens the time overall. But good for you for tackling this job, it's pretty empowering, isn't it?

Hi all anyone know which chickens are the best for meat eating . We were looking at the Cornish hens I think they are ?!

I've now watched a million butchering videos. Some folks knock 1 out in a minute or so, whereas I saw one woman who treated it like surgery.
I know I could do it, but not so much now that I quit drinking.

I have one rooster, that if I can't find a home for it, I 'm going to have to give it a go.

God bless women.. I can clean a sewer full of sewer rats pump out a septic tank, jump in a greae trap waist high but **** I dread culling my chickens. My wife..God bless her has the brass tacks to do it.
