I have recently "adopted" three more chickens, from a friend of mine..... I was told that the rooster was a Rhode Island Red, and the pullets were also RIR's. No eggs from the pullets yet, but they seem smaller to me. Could they be too young to be laying, yet? I am such a newbie! I will probably be asking more dumb questions than y'all will have the patience to answer.

The top pictures are of Rocky.... the rooster who sounds like he has laryngitis...... Beautiful big bird, walks around like he owns the place...... deep rusty red coloring with black tail feathers. The other two pictures are of Rusty and Red..... Are they really RIR hens? Old enough to be laying? The combs seem big to me for hens, but then I haven't found really good pictures of hens.

Thanks for your help......

Production reds, your hens have their beaks trimmed, they also appear to be older birds, maybe too old to still lay, they aren't young hens.

I agree the hens are red sex links. How old are they supposed to be? the large combs sure look like mature birds, but the pale color shows they're not physically ready to lay for whatever reason.
