Wheaten Ameraucana/EE?

Thread Starter

This is our 4-5 week old Ameraucana/EE. We are curious as to how she will look as a full grown and feathered bird. We know this is not something that can be predicted with 100% accuracy, but we are curious if anyone has any pictures of their birds that had this coloring as young chicks and how they look now. We have another Ameraucana that we got last spring, but her coloring has always been much darker than the new one.

This is Connie- the new bird 4-5 weeks old

sorry for the blurriness- you know how chicks are :weee

Here's how mine turned out.  The last picture is of a prior bird whose color was similar to my current 'wheaten' but was lighter, so yours may be similar.  Topaz was a pretty bird but oh so naughty (in a good way).

Thanks for the info and pictures! What shade egg did the bird in the last picture lay?

All birds pictured on this thread are Easter Eggers, not Ameraucana. Easter Eggers are really fun, interesting birds. But they are not and should not be confused with pure Ameraucana.

Ok, guess it's a good thing that I couldn't care less if my birds are Ameraucanas or EE. And you offered no info to answer my original question.

There is absolutely no way to predict exactly what color an Easter Egger chick will look like as an adult. Your chick seems to have a silver base color instead of gold, and juvenile partridge type patterning. How those factors develop though, is anybody's guess. You can have two identical chicks that end up looking completely different or you can have different looking chicks that end up looking the same. There is just no way to say what an Easter Egger will end up like. That's part of what makes owning Easter Eggers interesting.

I love how different they all turn out to be!  Yours looks like it might be on the white/lighter + partridge mix.  It will be interesting to see how she feathers out, she is a cutie!! :jumpy

Topaz, last pic, I had in 2013 that went back to the breeder who gave me her first laid eggs....Greenish blue.

Dusk & Tawny (upper two) haven't started laying yet....Breeder gave them to me at 2wk/end of Oct 2015.

Have fun with yours :)
