who says pea fowl are pea brains!!

Ok I have always heard birds are dumb and people say pea fowl is how the term pea brain got started, well I for one just don't agree!
I have a beautiful pair of Indians. My male is always tryin' to get the hens attention (she couldn't care less, looks at him like he's stupid LOL) I sooo want to take a pic when he is showing off, so for a while I would run back to the house to get my phone to get the pic, he would still be at it but soon as I raise the phone down goes the train! OK so then I start to just carry the phone when I go out, same thing I raise phone he goes down! OK so then I carry my camera, thinking he doesn't like the blue phone, same thing lift the camera train goes down. Dadgumit I not gonna let him win! So I sit out by the pen for half an hour looking in opposite direction, he's showing off like crazy I lift the camera (still looking in opposite direction) and turn and click, got a blurry pic of the tail folding up!!! I'm gonna have to install a video camera he's No bird brain!

Reminds me of the 1st year I had my white, I bought him home as a two year old. Every picture I got of him that first year was his hiney skedaddling! It was really comical and like you said, only when I had the camera.

Give him a couple of weeks of warm weather and he wont care about the camera in fact, I bet he poses for you. Once his mind gets set to breed, nothing else will matter. Keep us posted.

I know EXACTLY what you mean! A few years ago I got some white peachicks and I was hoping one would be a peacock because I love the look of a white peacock displaying. One peachick did end up being a male. Finally when he got his first real train I brought my camera to take some photos of his pretty display. Every time he saw the camera he would stop displaying! I got so annoyed! I had waited so long for my white peacock to mature so that I could get beautiful photos of him displaying, and he wouldn't let me get those photos! We set up a trail camera in the pen because I was worried that there were critters coming into the pen at night, and I did catch a few photos of him displaying on the trail camera - they weren't very good photos. I kept bringing my camera in the hope that he would someday let me take photos of him. I was able to get some far off shots of him when I quietly entered the pen and hid behind a bush to get a photo of his display! Once I stepped out from the bush he quit displaying of course. Finally it was nearing the end of the season and I knew he was about to shed his train. I knew I wouldn't have the opportunity to photograph him with a full train displaying until next season, so I had my camera on me in the hopes that I would get my chance. My white peacock finally allowed me to get a few photos of him displaying and a few days later he shed most of his train.

Now he is actually one of my best peacock models! He is good at striking poses for me and pausing in an elegant pose for the camera. I think that they begin to enjoy the attention. He even won 3rd place in a photo contest one year.





So don't give up on getting those photos! Your peacock might eventually become quite the model!

Somewhere in your list of skills I hope photography is listed if not, add it. Very nice camera work and oh yes, that rooster is indeed a looker. I cant wait to see Raptor in a few years. . Gerald Barker
