No vaccinations are mandatory however I highly recommend getting the vaccination for Mareks disease and Newcastle disease if you can get them.

I have linked some great articles on vaccination for you to read :

I'm not certain but I believe the Mareks shot has to be given at 1-2 days of age.  It doesn't prevent it but, may result in milder cases.  Survivors are Mareks are carriers all their life.

Welcome to BYC! Glad you joined the flock! Vaccines aren't required, but when shipping across the United States you have to be NPIP Certified. You test a certain percentage of your birds and if you test negative you have a clean flock and become certified. I think they test for 6 diseases. I would make sure you have a wormer, chemical or natural, because chickens can sometimes pass blackhead to turkeys. Turkeys are not a resistant as chickens.

Welcome to Backyard chickens.

The Marek's vaccine helps prevent. It's like brucellosis in cattle. They can be exposed to it but if exposed to so much of it they will get it. I'm not sure why you would want to keep a survivor since they can spread it and the symptoms are nasty in my opinion.
