Just joined. I'm melinda. I'm a 36 yo mom of two teen (one in hs, one in college) sons. I'm partially disabled due to a near fatal motorcycle accident which took part my leg :- ( I'm a fairly new chicken mommy. I have 2 buffs orpington and 2 black astrolorps that are around 3 months old in coop now. I also just picked up 6 baby silkies from tractor supply! They are such tiny little things! Look forward to meeting and talking with everyone!!

Oh my eyes, that chick is too stinkin' cute!! I can't stand it. What a doll!!. Silkies are extremely difficult to sex before 4-5 mos. of age, and sometimes not till they lay or crow.

When they are older you can post photos at "what breed or gender is this." You may also like to check out the "Silkie thread." just put that in the search box and it should pop up.

Thank you! I have read that the difference is alot in their "hairdo" when they are older. I've frequented this site for some time now but I figured it was time to join and interact instead of just be the peanut gallery. Lol

Hi Melinda and welcome to BYC - great to have you onboard.

The Learning Centre is a great resource, even for experienced chicken keepers - loads of info on anything chicken. https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

Joining your state thread will also put you in contact with other BYC members in your area.

The members here are amazing - very friendly and helpful, so if you need an answer to a question or simply want some reassurance that what you are doing is ok, then post away - we all help each other out here at BYC.

All the best
