Very sick hen- is it too late to treat?

If she has ascites or fluid in the belly from EYP or other causes, you can drain some of the fluid off occasionally with an 18 gauge needle inserted just under the skin. I've never done it, but there are pictures of it if you do a search at the top of the page for ascites, and click on the second thread called "Ascites, in desperate need of help," then look at post number 5.


Thank you so much for referring me to that thread. Those pictures are very helpful. I'm debating about trying to drain it or not. If she's just going to fill up again in a couple of weeks, I think I'd rather just let her go. It's just a hard decision to make.
 
You're welcome. It sometimes relieves pain and shortness of breath, but it does have to be done at intervals if the fluid re-accumulates.
