OK, so we are new to the chicken world. We bought 6 chicks from TSC. We were told they were hens, but we've been hearing that they are straight run, and we are now noticing it. So far we've discovered that we have 2 roosters, but we are unsure about 1 of the red rangers. So I'm hoping maybe yall can help me. I'm posting pictures below. Thanks

Sorry, but that guy is definitely a guy. :(

Also, Red Rangers are a meat breed. They're not generally kept as laying hens because they get huge and eat a lot and don't lay as well as laying breeds do.

Thank you for the input. We know about them being meat chickens. :) We plan on getting more egg layers soon

Welcome to BYC by the way! :welcome

This is a very informative site, enjoy! I got my first chickens in 2009 and have learned a lot since. Both by trial and error (especially at first, before finding this site), and a lot of reading and posting on this site.

Glad you know they are meat chickens. There are actually a lot of new chicken owners who get chicks from TSC and trust everything the TSC employees (and the chick bin labels) say, which is quite often incorrect information, unfortunately.

Best of luck in your chicken venture! :)
