Hello -

Please forgive me if this is another "new introduction". I literally can't remember if I have introduced myself yet or not. (Joys of getting old). My name is Trinity and I live in Gilbert, Arizona with my husband and two girls. I am a certified veterinary technician by trade and have worked in the field for 22 + years. With that being said I knew NOTHING about chickens. I have always worked with dogs and cats.

Everything about them has been a learning experience for me and there has been some hard lessons for sure.

We got our first three chickens about a year ago. (Annie Oakley - Silver Laced Wyandotte, Spicy Nugget and Big Red - Rhode Island Reds)

They are great layers and quite friendly.

Our flock right now consists of the above mentioned plus 4 Australorps, 1 Silkie (who I think maybe male), 2 Black Sex Links, and a Cochin.

I've always been a big believer in nutrition for my pets and I am very interested in providing the best foods for my chickens as that will come right back to us in the eggs.

Along with their premium poultry crumble I also provide them with a steady source of super worms and I make what I refer to as "chicken chop"

Today's "chop" was a mixture of spinach, kale, red leaf lettuce, red kale, cilantro, carrots red/orange/yellow bell peppers, strawberries, bananas, apples, blueberries, brown rice (cooked), coconut oil, and black solider fly larvae (Tasty Grubs). I take all of these things and put them thru the food processor and then everything is mixed together and served. I make a large amount as I don't have time to do this on a daily basis. In the summer time I like to offer this as a frozen treat to help cool them down.

I am always interested in learning new things and find backyard chickens to be extremely helpful.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my post.

Take Care
Trinity

Nice to meet you Trinity, glad you joined us at Backyard chickens. You may like checking out the Learning Center, it's a great start for chicken newbies - or refresher for those who need it.

I think I would skip the larvae bit

- but then I am squeamish.
