Depends on the application...

If you are looking for an in incubator temperature monitoring device the 'egg o meter' is a far better choice as is simulates the internal temp of the egg and that is what is important... The IR meter measures the surface temp, something that does not always equate to the eggs internal temp...

You can also build your own 'egg o meter' for far less, I use 2oz (60ml) 'preemie' baby bottles filled with water with a thermometer stuck in them or 4oz bottles for bigger egg hatches like peafowl, I have also used a ziplock bag filled with 2oz of water and rolled up with the thermometer in the middle... Other people use those little liquid 'snake' like wiggle toys...
