I am raising 4 chickens for a school project. They have been very gentle, nice, and did not show too much aggression. (My Americana has actually shown a little aggression as she/he will try to start fight I think) I am no expert so my hens may have a rooster upon the group. Two hens recently started laying eggs.
I came home today to find a wound on the neck of my Rhode Island Red. Her feathers are all torn off in this particular spot and it looks like she's been attacked. I have no idea what may have happened because I did not notice this yesterday. My parents believe the Americana is a rooster. People have said its because the Americana is attacking my Rhode Island Red because he wants to mate. The Rhode Island Red has been acting normal and I do not see any feathers in their coop.
Is this the reason why she is hurt?
Has anyone else experienced this?
What should I do?
