I am a brand new chicken momma, witih 5 new pullets about 5 mos. old and one of the Americaunas has started laying 4 days ago. The first egg was small and it was layed from the roost so it broke, but the 2nd egg had no shell and the 3rd egg was a jello egg. She didn't lay anything on the 4th day and the others haven't started laying yet. Is this a normal thing? I started giving them oyster shells 3 weeks ago then I read you shouldn't give it until they start laying so I've only started giving it the last 3 days.

Hi, its perfectly normal for a new laying pullet to produce soft shell eggs and to be a bit hit and miss with daily egg laying. Don't worry about it - it just takes a while before their egg-laying system starts to operate properly.
