In the Brooder
Still new to the whole backyard chicken thing. We decided to add a few more to our group after we learned that about 2/3 of what we initially purchased were meat birds.
TSC had a new shipment of pullets so we decided to go pick some up. While there, they also had a tub of Bantams. My kids were a little upset that the majority of what we got would be dinner and not 'pets' so we decided we'd pick up three bantams. Chick #1 & #2 are mostly light gray with yellow on the head. After we got home I noticed they had some hair on the legs. I looked up Silkie Chicks but all the picks I see show dark colored feet and more poof to the top of their heads. These have light colored feet. Chick #3 looks like a chipmunk but isn't looking very good this morning. Did we indeed end up with Silkie Bantams? Will these end up being lavender or white?
Bantam Chick #1
Chick #2
Chick#3 not looking too good now today. Stands wavering like it's drunk and stands hunched over like this with the wings out and eyes closed. Will drink on it's own if I move it and put it's beak in the water and then will open his eyes and seem ok for a bit. I haven't seen it eat anything. Gets around in the box but very wobbly and tends to peep alot. Some of the pullets are just walking right over it and pecking at it. Should I separate this one from the group? Do I stay out of it and let nature do its thing or is sugar water etc going to do anything for it?
