HELP NEEDED ASAP !!! i think my chicken is egg bound or prolapsing

Does the part that's sticking out seem swollen? And vet wise most don't do chickens (not sure if that's because anestia or however it's spelt is more risky in birds or there just might not be much they can do for chickens), I would try to lubricate it but I don't think that would go over too well. Also try to keep what's sticking out moisturized and clean so there won't be a chance of infection, wish I could help more :(

I think it's mostly because many people don't take chickens to the vet. It may also be because there isn't much work in treating chickens compared to other animals such as dogs and cats. I don't think chickens are ever really put under anesthesia.

Well there won't be much progress in vet care if they didn't bring them in :p but your probably right vet bills might be too costly for how much the chicken is worth
 
update on jess - just came back from the vet actually seen a vet who specialises in chickens woo

...she had prolapsed and had a shell-less egg stuck ( looked like a mini boiled egg) he popped that out shes also ruptured it abit but he couldnt do anything for that

so he pushed her prolapsed back in and gave me some rubber gloves to do the same if it pops out again - gave her shot of anti-inflamitory and antibiotics and been told to keep her separated from the others for a few days - she seems ok just standing still dunno wether that might be coz shes in pain or weary of where she is lol shes just standing staring at me



- ive got her in an old baby pen lol she hasnt ate or drank today though which i hope she will :-/ - so im gunna keep it clean nd pop it in if it pops out nd just hope it goes back to normal - thanks for all your help, info and messages

Im so glad she's ok! Hopefully she'll be better than ever in a day or so. £20 is about the same in US dollars isn't it?
 
ive just looked 20 pound is about 28 dollars which still isnt bad - taking my cat costs about 50 pound lol - well shes eating and drinking and her vent looks to be shrinking back to normal size nd shes looking abit perkier looks like shes mending well

Oh wow that's not bad at all! I'm glad she's doing better and fingers crossed she's not going to get another egg stuck :)
 
So nice to hear of her improvement! Only Twenty pounds?! Around here it would cost about $150 just for a checkup on an "exotic animal". Crazy. Who do they think can just throw money around like that? To be fair, I doubt there's much money in being a chicken vet.
