So mad at FARM SUPPLY

So on Monday afternoon, about 330 pm, I bought 4 baby chicks. First time I have ever bought chicks from this place but they are really the only Feed/Farm supply company that has a monopoly around here, other than my favorite Atascadero Hay and Feed in north county.

Anyway, there was nothing noted to me about there NOT being a health guarantee within 24hr or 48hr like most places have, they claim to have it posted but I feel they should have at least mentioned it explicitly to each customer so they understand it in case they want to change their mind. In the bin of chicks, I noticed one laying down, not moving around with the others when we went to scoop up our babies, so I let that one be, thinking its not doing too great and I don't want ill or weak chicks. I had got 3 Black Copper Marans and a RIR. I had intended to get 2 of each, but some guy that came after me, ended getting to select and scoop up with me and grabbed the only other RIR available, so I thought I wanted BCMs so I went ahead and just got the 3rd one anyway.

So I have the appropriate set up, I am not new to this, and the chicks were fine when I got them, but when I went to work on Tuesday, my husband said that one of the chicks was not acting right, then he found her dead. So when I got home, I called the Farm Supply in Santa Maria, where I had purchased the chicks from and left a message with my phone number and information. No return phone call. I had to work a double yesterday (wednesday). So I just called them and explained to them that the chick didn't survive the 24 hours, they say there is no guarantee, no return or replacement policy. So I just lost a $4 hatchery quality bird, I asked what hatchery they got them from, they told me Redwing Hatchery, in Lancaster CA. That is nearly 4-5 hours away. We have a local hatchery in Lompoc, and I believe one in Arroyo Grande...... LANCASTER? Also they told me that the hatchery even doesn't give the Farm Supply a guarantee and will not replace dead chicks when they arrive or die with in a day or 2. Also the FS said that it is because as soon as they leave the store, they don't know what happens to the chicks or if they are properly cared for.  He claimed that most people have claimed to not even put chicks under lights......

Anyway, I WILL NOT be going back to Farm Supply for my needs anymore. They don't even sell good food, they have their own brand that they sell but it is not organic nor Non-GMO and MONSANTO has their claim staked into the company. Farm Supply is over priced as well. They sell only Scratch N Peck Organic but it is ridiculously priced for a 35# bag of scratch is nearly $40! Feed is priced equivalently.

Anyways, venting, feeling bad for that chick. I have been watching the others closely, and they are all doing great. I have a total of 8 now. I had went to another Farm Supply (in Arroyo Grande) shortly after buy these in Santa Maria and got 5 more, so had 9 until the 1 died!
