How do I free range and have a garden too? - Page 2

Ugh! This needs to stop! Flowers are part of my therapy! The reason for getting the chickens and letting them free range was for bug control. They have 5 acres to roam in but prefer my flower beds. Any suggestions for attractive chicken proofing so i can have the best of both worlds?

You can buy a 100' roll of deer netting that is 7' tall.  A quick snip with scissors (ok, maybe not so quick since it's 100,' but with help, it goes pretty quickly) will divide it into 3.5' tall sections.  These are easy to put up by weaving fiberglass posts through the 1" mesh.  It's practically invisible from a few feet away.  The chickens will try to walk through it a few times.  They'll be puzzled when they bounce off it.  They don't seem to be smart enough to try to fly over it.  Since they can't see the top, they don't even consider that option.  Just be sure there's nothing near the fence for them to stand on... Then... they might figure that out.

bird netting

it doesn't have to be that tall maybe 2 ft in height would be sufficient

i have some young citrus trees with new sprouts that is within the chickens' reach

i put some 2ft rod/sticks around the chunk of the tree and wrap bird netting around it.  they will go some where else instead
