I really don't want all pekins because the boys will have to be culled from my mixed flock (too big for my other girls).

What are some identifiers other than color that I could look for.
I cant help too much with what to look for since im obviously not very experienced. But i would say look up pictures of the breeds you like and what they look like as ducklings and then go see what they have.
And i would definatly just go look and not listen to what they tell you they have.
They told me twice over the phone they dont sell silkies and i went in and they hve a mixed bantam chick bin full of silkies! Lol
And with the ducks the employees are all convinced they have nothing more than the 4 breeds on their chart. Pekin, rouen, mallard and khaki.
But they had far more breeds than this. They told me the yellow was a khaki and the black swedisg they told me was a rouen. I just said thanks and bought them anyway haha

Updated pics on one of the mixed ducklings. At first was suggested black swedish ... But it is staying much smaller than the pekins and other black swedish. And the way it stands has me wondering if maybe she is a runner? But i dont know anything about runners. So just wondering:)
The one in the water bowl we are still unsure of its breed too. A little bigger than the black one and also stands very upright compared to the others.

I'm no expert either as I only have one runner but they do look very runner-ish to me. The second one looks like a chocolate runner maybe, but i'm not sure I've ever seen a swedish-patterned runner, so it'll be interesting to see how he/she turns out.

Momma to 8 ducks - Rocky, Dexter (male mallards);  Ruby Sue (female mallard); Tony (male buff); Roxy (female fawn and white runner); Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose (female Welsh Harlequins); and 2 kitties, Maggie and Fuffy-cat.

RIP Bullwinkle and Turkey-duck :(
