Solitary chicken. What to do?

My husband and I just dove into the chicken world. We heard of two chickens in terrible station and took them on. Our lack of experience led to one already being killed by a dog. Our one that's left is now traumatized and alone. She's doing well physically, but I keep reading how important it is that she isn't alone. Should I get another hen now or would the pecking order stress her? either being dominant or being dominated. Should I get a juvenile chicken a bit younger than her? She's only about 6 months old. We are lost on what to do and don't want to stress her any further.

The most important thing is that she has a friend. I'd get one or two young hens or pullets. Then when you want more, you can add the same number again.

You can probably find one or two the same age on craigslist.

Dogs are a huge problem with chickens.

You should probably read through the learning center above and this thread too.
