I see this tread really hasn’t been active for awhile but I’m going to try my question anyway because I’m on page 34 of the tread and there has been great answers here. So I am using a LG digital with no fan I seem to have got the temperature stable at 99.8 with thermometers on the bottom. I keep seeing 102 at egg top for still air but if I don’t have eggs in yet and temperatures on thermometer is 99.8 wouldn’t that be ok. I don’t want to fry eggs by getting the thermometer temperature at 102. Here is how I set it up. I will but Silkie eggs in the apparent sweet spot in between the 2 Acuvue thermometers and I am getting an aquarium thermometer to put on the eggs.

I just had a hatch here yesterday of Australorp chicks. I tried that dry method this time. I kept the temperature between 101 and 102 F. I did not add any water in there until lock-down. 7 eggs were in lockdown, 5 of them hatched a day early. Today was supposed to be their hatch day.

Hi all,

I have a 2nd hand LG 9200 and have been very pleased, with temps staying at a perfect 101.5 so far. This is my second attempt at hatching, 1st one failed due to user error and not by any fault of the 'bator!
As of day 10, 11/12 eggs I set are doing great, only 1 clear and no quitters so far.
Along with all the tips mentioned above, (I agree 100%) here are some more tips I have learned:

  • Hot gluing a lego to the control stick of a manual styro makes it MUCH less fiddly.
  • Make sure you measure temp at the correct level, (in still air styros especially!) just below the top, not at egg turner level. This was why my hatch failed, I had it at 101.5 egg turner level and it was 105 at the embryo level!
Maybe that is where I am going wrong!!!! I am so frustrated with my hatch rates! This thread has given me great tips. I can't wait to try them on my next hatch!

Hi there. I’m new to hatching & it’s lockdown shortly. My humidity has never been above 50%, but the air cells seem to be developing normally. My question is how the heck do I raise the humidity!? Do I need to worry about? Do I need to take both air hole plugs out? I have a little giant styrofoam still air incubator with an egg turning. I’m a nervous wreck for these little babies!
