new to chickens...sex linked babies?

Hello all. New to raising backyard chickens but have done some research. I pick up my coop that was built for me tomorrow and have chicks inside with a lamp. Had them in a large dog crate in the garage and soon discovered the cats trying to stick their lovely paws in to try and scoop the babies out...yikes! At any rate I got them at tractor supply. I have 3 red or gold sex link babies and 3 black ones just labeled pullets. I am pretty sure they are black sex links, they look alot lie barred rocks without the white dot on their heads. I have a question are the red sex linked chickens at Tractor's supply always Rhode Island red and white rhode island crosses? The black ones seem friendlier so far. Thanks in advance for my question. smile.png

Each hatchery has their own formula for creating red sex links, but they are a RIR male over a silver based female. Those are often Delawares, white Rocks or the hatchery version of RI whites. Black sex link chicks are solid black, so they could be black sex links.

These are the black ones. A little white on their throats and bellies and wing times. Just labeled as pullets, no breed listed at the store.
