I'm w o all of this but I will soon (hopefully) begin raising chickens in my new backyard for eggs and satisfaction, all I will want from my birds is a consistent flow of good eggs with as low an amount of maintenance as possible, this is for my pleasure and enjoyment not for any kind of breed competition, so which breed would best serve my needs here in southern Alabama?

There are numerous breeds available. At the top of this page is a square marked breeds. You might want to click there and take a look. I raise serama bantams and derive a great deal of pleasure from them. Which ever breed you choose-good luck.
