Dominique breeder in Oklahoma looking to raise a few birds.

This is my first time raising chickens of the Dominique breed.  I bought seven from a lady... six hens and a rooster and they were eight months old.  Every one of them were wormy,  and having a respiratory illness from gape worm infections as well.  It has been two months now of steady treatments and I just heard the rooster crow for the first time yesterday.  Not a loud crow mind you he still has a little rattle,  but a crow none the less.  He is dancing for the hens in the morning and feeling feeling better.  I knew better than buying the chickens from the seller... The chicken yard was in horrible condition to many birds and to many species all drinking from a duck pond.  I have worked as an assistant veterinarian and have a good idea of just what I was getting into.  Three of the hens have to have the worst beak job I have ever seen in my life.  I felt so sorry for them.  They have a new home, and a new outlook on life.  With luck this fall I hope to add to the flock.  Fingers crossed for a broody Dominique hen,  but I have two Cochin lady's in waiting,  and an incubator handy.

There's a lot of great peeps here! Feel free to ask lots of questions. But most of all, make yourself at home. I'm so glad you decided to join the BYC family. I look forward to seeing you around the run. Good luck with your endeavors! frow.gif
Did a moth know that the flame was going to change her life forever, or did she simply fly towards that heated embrace, knowing it would offer her something she couldn't give herself? In the end, the answer didn't really matter. The moth had never wanted the choice. -Joey W. Hill-

I set fire to the rain! Watch it pour as I, touched your face. Well it burn while I cried, because I heard it screaming out your name. And I threw us into flames. I knew that was the last time, the last time...I set fire to the rain! -Adele

Sometimes the heart rules the head.  I think you just knew those birds needed rescuing  and stepped up to the plate to do so.  Thank you.  I know they will blossom under your TLC. By all means  WELCOME to Backyard Chickens.
