I have a trough feeder, and they will perch on the side while eating, then stick their heads farther in and pop themselves into the feeder. They crawl around inside for a few seconds, completely calm, then they pop out in the other side. Now I need to figure out how to bantam proof the feeder.

I will be sure to do that, thanks! I've started hand feeding the entire flock, and it definitely seems to be helping.

I was worried about the RIRs and the White Rocks picking on them because they're so much bigger, but they haven't bothered them. I think they're a little put off by these tiny chicks that act ten feet tall.wink.png

I'll try to get some pictures of them when I get home!

I think what you're seeing is typical Mille Fleur attitude! My three are very high up on the pecking order, too. It's hilarious, because Piranha and Barracuda are already play-fighting like grown roosters. SO entertaining to watch! :pop

To quote my uncle, they're 10 feet tall and bullet proof. :gig

Yes, I'd love to see your babies when you get a chance!

If the chickens I get are up to snuff, I would like to eventually take them places, such as nursing homes, and let them be a "chicken ambassador" of sorts. A chicken that would catch people's eye, and start the conversation of chickens and hopefully educate people more about keeping backyard chickens.

There are probably more breeds than most of can count that would fit your needs nicely but personally I like Orpingtons for a docile chicken. The English variety make very nice looking hens and the color varieties are all there too.
