Hi everyone,
I am potentially buying this 4 week old Welsummer today from a seller. She said she was sexed when she got her and that it's a female and looks similar to other females in her flock but I wanted to get your expert opinion on it. I know it can be hard to tell early on, but her comb looks pale and she has patterned feathers. What do you think? Male or female?? Thanks everyone!

I'd guess female... Female Welsummers as tiny chicks usually have clear eyeliner, and a distinct, sharp V on top of the head- it's hard to see the v fully in the pics, but the eyeliner still looks pretty good, so that wouldn't my guess.

Thanks! I thought the same thing...It's such a gamble sometimes! But I really want a Welsummer in our flock! @TJs chicklets

As tj said welsummer a can be sexed by markings. Unless you get a funky chick you could give any kid a list of female vs male markings and sex your welsummers. So they are probably correct.

Yup. The males and females look quite different with both breeds, although I have one welsummer chick that has femal coloring and I wonder if it's really a male. Anyways the females have the chipmunk coloring, eyeliner, and the black v on their head. Males are just all around lighter.

As I watch them I have found definite difference between the two for those who come upon this thread. At first their legs both look the same but by the second week the legbars did turn greenish. My cream legbar chicks were also smaller. Also the black coloring on their head is different. The welsummer was a wide v whereas the cream legbar was more of a black stripe.
