Hello all. I've been lurking here for a long time but have never had to post before. I'm a first time goose owner, I've had chickens before but have always wanted geese. About a month ago I purchased a trio of cotton patch geese (1 male and 2 female) and have them in a converted shed. The original owners of the geese had told me I should wait about a month before I let them free range. My chickens are completely free range and only go into the coop to lay eggs or in very cold weather and I wanted the same scenario for the geese. My concern is that they are still pretty skittish and not very friendly and they can FLY. I own 10 acres of land about 4-5 acres of which are unfenced fields. My neighbor across the street has a blueberry farm with a pond on it which the chickens don't bother, they never cross the street. Should I fence the pasture in before I let them free range or should they stay around the house? Should I clip their wings so that they cannot fly or will this make them more vulnerable to predators? Once they are out how do I get them back in? Thank you in advance for your help!
